MB: SRIE allows industry players develop new technologies to address issues in Selangor

By Yasmin Ramlan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 — The Selangor R&D and Innovation Expo (SRIE) gives industry players the chance to collaborate on the development of innovative technologies and research to address issues and challenges faced by the state.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that among the issues experienced by the people in the state are floods, pandemics, and landslides.

As an example, he said the formulation of the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) five-year blueprint had ensured R&D and innovation would be applied across various sectors.

“We established SRIE with the expectation to gather high-value research, which often needs substantial costs and government grants, as well as collaborations with universities and other stakeholders.

“This approach facilitates involvement among industry players, which allows them to deliver solutions to the community by addressing specific issues in their daily lives.

“Although some of the exhibitions may appear common to those in the research field, it’s important to acknowledge their ability to solve some of the problems the public faces, such as pandemics, floods, and landslides,” he said in his closing speech at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), here, today.

The research and innovation expo was held in conjunction with the four-day Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2023, which ends today.

Meanwhile, Amirudin also lauded high-quality innovation projects invented by Selangor people participating in the Selangor Innovation Award (AINS), organised by the state government in collaboration with the state secretary’s office and involving 12 local councils in Selangor.

“For this year, AINS received 220 entries for seven categories. The evaluation session was held from August 2023 to September 2023 in 12 local councils in Selangor.

“As a result, a total of 70 participants have successfully made it to the final stage held from September 18 to 2,” he said.

For the public sector category (local councils), the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) won RM5,000, a trophy, and a certificate, whereas under the same category for land and district offices, it was won by the Sabak Bernam Land and District Office.

As for the special award category: best final product (product akhir terbaik) was won by Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, with a prize worth RM3,000, a trophy, and a certificate.

The top three winners won prizes ranging from RM2,500 to RM5,000, trophies, and certificates.
