HULU LANGAT, Oct 25 — The Kajang Municipal Council’s (MPKj) rescue team is prepared for potential floods due to unpredictable weather at the end of this year.

Its acting President, Mohd Fareez Mohd Ariss@Mohd Hatta, said the council has 120 team members, including its Special Action Squad (Pantas), in the event disaster strikes.

“For assets, we have five boats, two tanker lorries, and five temporary relief centres (PPS) under MPKj.

“The Department of Social Welfare will also provide additional double assistance. Basic facilities at the PPS will be improved to enhance comfort.

“Additionally, MPKj is collaborating with the Hulu Langat District and Land Office, the Hulu Langat district Malaysian Civil Defense Force, the National Disaster Management Agency, and several other agencies to facilitate operations in case of a disaster,” he said during the council’s monthly meeting at Menara MPKj today.

Fareez added that MPKj is also cooperating with the Irrigation and Drainage Department and the Public Works Department in clearing drains and culverts to prevent blockages during continuous rainfall.

“The issue of blocked drains and culverts is one of our priorities, along with the retention ponds’ condition. We hope flooding will not occur, but are prepared for all possibilities nonetheless,” he said.
