Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin is new Bernama editor-in-chief

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has appointed Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin as its new Editor-in-Chief, effective immediately.

The veteran journalist also creates history as the first woman ever appointed to hold the position at the news agency since its establishment in 1967.

Nur-ul Afida, 56, takes over from Jamaluddin Muhammad, who was appointed the agency’s chief executive officer on October 19.

In lauding the appointment, Jamaluddin said Nur-ul Afida has extensive journalism experience and held several key positions in Bernama, including Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Services since June this year.

The former Bernama Head of Strategic Planning has been with the agency for 38 years since 1985.

She also held various roles within different departments and units in Bernama, including the General News Desk, Malay Subs Desk, Photo Unit, Feature and Strategic Writing Desk, besides contributing as a trainer at the Bernama School of Journalism since 2009.
