Selangor donates truck, ambulance to help Gaza war victims

SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — A relief truck and an ambulance have been dispatched to assist Gaza Strip victims trapped under the rubble due to continuous Israeli military attacks.

Global Peace Mission Malaysia (GPM) chief executive officer Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said these vehicles were purchased using the collection from the Selangor Prihatin Humanitarian Fund, launched in 2021.

“The relief truck and ambulance are now in Gaza. When collapses occur due to bombings, victims are trapped, and we must rescue them.

“These vehicles are the result of contributions from the Malaysians (through the humanitarian fund collection) and will be used when Gaza is under attack,” he said when contacted today.

On June 25, 2021, Selangor said RM370,000 from the first phase of the fund would be channelled to GPM to purchase an ambulance and provide food for the Palestinian residents.

The funds were also used to purchase three aid trucks, fuel, and generator sets.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Fahmi proposed the reactivation of the humanitarian fund as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict.

This proposal has already been conveyed to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, with further discussions to be held after he returns from his working visit to Jordan and Egypt.

“We will also discuss specific needs to help the victims there, given the scale of this attack. Several options will be presented for consideration, including medical aid, hospital equipment, home rehabilitation, basic necessities, and generator sets,” he said.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has confirmed at least 950 Palestinians have been killed and over 5,000 injured in the Israeli attacks, now in its fifth day.
