Selangor insurance scheme: 57 families compensated, RM669,000 disbursed

By Rohaizah Zainal

GOMBAK, Oct 4 – Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has completed the compensation process for 57 families under the Selangor General Insurance Scheme (Insan), involving an amount of RM669,000.

Its chief operating officer Saipolyazan M Yusop said since the start of the year, MBI has received a total of 129 claims.

However, some of the applications are still being processed due to certain issues, such as failure to provide relevant documents.

“Among the issues for the delay are the lack of driving licence, road tax and several other documents that need to be scrutinised before being approved,” he said after handing over compensation to a family of a motorcycle accident victim in Batu Arang, here, yesterday.

Insan was introduced last year to provide coverage to residents in Selangor aged 30 days to 80 years, with the premium being fully borne by the state government.

Under the initiative, there are two types of schemes, namely a conventional insurance by AmGeneral Insurance Bhd and a takaful version provided by Takaful Ikhlas General Bhd.

The scheme, which targets six million Selangor residents, offers coverage up to RM10,000 in cases of permanent disability and death due to accidents.

To qualify for protection under Insan, recipients must either be born in Selangor, have a Selangor address on their identification card or be a voter in the state.
