Sg Langat WTP upgrading works on track for 7pm completion

By Danial Dzulkifly

SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 – The ongoing upgrading and maintenance works at the Sungai Langat Water Treatment Plant (WTP) by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, which resulted in scheduled water cuts, are on track for completion by 7pm today.

It said the water supply will be restored to the affected areas in Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, and Hulu Langat in stages, with full restoration expected by 12pm on Thursday (October 12).

“Following the stabilisation of the water supply distribution system, the resumption of water services will be executed in phases.

“The recovery time may vary across affected locations, based on the proximity and location of consumers’ residences,” it said in a statement today.

As of 3.30pm, 72 per cent of overall works have been completed.

To mitigate the inconvenience of water disruption, Air Selangor has dispatched water tankers to affected areas, prioritising critical establishments like hospitals, clinics, dialysis centres and funeral venues.

Residents of the impacted regions can access alternative water supplies at seven designated local service centres, as outlined on Air Selangor’s Facebook.

For businesses, water supply purchases can be made at any of Air Selangor’s customer service counters.

Commercial customers can also use their water tankers at two local water-filling stations located in Sunway Batu Caves and Selayang Mutiara.

On September 26, Air Selangor announced it would carry out upgrading and maintenance works of its assets at the Sungai Langat WTP, which will result in a scheduled water supply disruption today.

Meanwhile, residents in several parts of the Klang Valley faced a separate unscheduled water cut today after odour pollution was detected in Sungai Selangor, leading to the temporary shutdown of the Sungai Selangor Phase One, Two, and Three WTPs, as well as the Rantau Panjang WTP.

However, operations at these plants resumed starting at 4am today.
