SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 — State government subsidiaries were able to highlight some of their more prominent innovations and technologies at the global level following their participation in the recent 27th World Road Congress (WRC) 2023.

This is according to executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim, who led the Selangor delegation to the event in Prague, Czech Republic from October 2 to 6, reported Sinar Harian.

Among the subsidiaries involved were Selgem Sdn Bhd and Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd, as well as other related agencies like the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) and state local councils.

According to Izham, among the innovations that were showcased at the congress was the state’s road asset management system known as the Integrated Road Access System (i-RAA), which uses artificial intelligence as its core.

Another technology that was introduced to international visitors at the WRC 2023 was the state-developed light detection and ranging (Lidar) system.

The Road Network Defect Assessment (Ronda) system, which helps JKR and Infrasel Sdn Bhd in their road maintenance works through the gathering of public complaints on damaged infrastructure or amenities, was also spotlighted.

“The sophistication of AI technology is capable of producing detailed data analysis that helps in improving the quality of feedback of road maintenance services.

“Furthermore, it also plays a significant role in the development of smart cities,” Sinar Harian quoted Izham as saying in a recent statement.

Selgem executive director Mohammad Hafizuddin Zakaraya said the i-RAA application, in particular, captured the attention of many global industry players and experts.

He said they were excited by the system introduced by Selgem and have expressed interest to collaborate and potentially subscribe to the technology.

“We hope technologies developed by the locals will continue to break into the international market,” he said, adding that many visitors at the congress have commended Selgem for being the only company that provides a comprehensive, effective and user-friendly platform.

WRC 2023, which carries the theme Together on the Road Again’, saw the participation of government agencies and private companies from all over the world.

The congress is held once every four years.
