Eradicating Aedes: MPKj to use lighter gas spray that can spread further

by Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

HULU LANGAT, Nov 19 — The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) will use the latest methods to prevent mosquito breeding in buildings including the use of new technology, Mirakn.

Its president Nazli Md Taib said Mirakn products use carbon dioxide concentration with a lighter gas spray and can spread further and comprehensively.

“This product allows local authorities to access occupied and unoccupied houses more easily and efficiently.

“Mirakn technology is very effective in killing mosquitoes, especially in vacant or residential areas,” he said.

The text of his speech was read out by MPKj Deputy Speaker, Mohd Fareez Mohd Ariss@Mohd Hatta at the launch of the Killing Aedes From Inside (S-KAF) volunteers which was officiated by state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin at the Central Brigade Headquarters, PGA Cheras here, today.

Commenting further, Nazli said the Mistaway spray technique will be used in strata and multi-storey residences with the device being placed within a period of at least a month in one area.

“It is able to release four sprays a day that do not smell and leave no traces and are seen to be able to replace thermal poison sprays (thermal fogging and ULV) thus breaking the chain in an epidemic locality.

“In addition, the Bimobet method is also used which is more biological and cost effective with the user only having to add water mixed with Sumilarv (powder) into the Bimobet container.

“It will attract the attention of mosquitoes to lay eggs and eventually die in the container and the larvae will experience stunted growth,” he said.

Regarding S-KAF, he said it is a smart cooperation programme with residents’ associations that includes technical assistance support, logistics and guidance on the destruction of mosquito breeding sites.

“The pilot project was started with the participation of 10 residents’ associations who received technical assistance in methods of destroying mosquitoes and larvae, namely Mistaway, Mirakn and Bimobet,” he said.
