HULU KELANG, Nov 25 — The Selangor Football Association (FAS) contributed RM20,000 to plant 2,000 trees in the Ulu Gombak Forest Reserve at Kemensah today.
Selangor Forestry Department director Azhar Ahmad said their collaboration with FAS is part of the effort to fulfil the state government’s initiative in achieving the target of planting 11 million trees by 2026.
“The RM10 cost for each sapling is fully sponsored by FAS. It consists of three types, namely Borneo teak (merbau), Shorea leprosula (meranti tembaga), and Hopea sulcata (merawan menanti).
“In addition, this collaboration is to support the Malaysian Greening programme via the 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign by the Federal government by 2025,” he said during the programme.
Earlier, Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah graciously participated in the programme, as FAS’ president. His Royal Highness planted a Borneo teak sapling.
Azhar added the program was also attended by 27 students from the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and five students from the International Islamic University Malaysia, to educate them about the importance of the environment.
“It fulfills FAS’s desire to celebrate with students in this programme, raise awareness, and provide opportunities for them to learn more closely about the forest conservation process,” he said.
