Kajang rep to form flood management committee

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — A special flood committee involving several agencies will be established for the Kajang state constituency in the near future.

Its state assemblyman Cheong Kian Young said the agencies include the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj), the Irrigation and Drainage Department, the Public Works Department, as well as the Land and District Office.

“At the moment, flood management efforts lack a systematic approach, but with the formation of this special committee, all parties will collaborate to address these issues.

“I estimate the meeting with all the agencies will be held once the current State Legislative Assembly session concludes, so Kajang’s flood problems can be addressed promptly and for the long term,” he told SelangorKini.

Cheong added meetings have already been conducted with MPKj to find solutions for areas frequently affected by flooding in Saujana Impian, Jalan Reko, Kampung Bukit Badong, and Sungai Sekamat.

“We are always prepared to ensure early actions can be taken so the issue does not continuously burden the people. That is why we want this committee to be established as swiftly as possible,” he said.

As of 9pm yesterday, the number of flood victims taking shelter in temporary relocation centres in Selangor decreased to 702 victims from 180 families, compared to 740 flood victims from 186 families, as reported yesterday morning.
