KLANG, Nov 5 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari urged everyone to use the Federal Constitution as a source of guidance to prevent disunity, reminding them against neglecting the government’s painstaking post-Covid-19 pandemic economic recovery work.
Speaking at the state-level Deepavali celebration at Dataran Klang yesterday evening, he emphasised the risk of identity politics, which may lead to tensions and division, both within the state and across Malaysia as a whole.
“Identity politics are often raised and cause bickering among us. To enhance the bonds between states and the nation, we can rely on our Constitution as the fundamental guiding principle uniting us.
“If we overlook this foundation, we might encounter difficulties and challenges which could be more formidable to overcome,” Amirudin said.
Without naming anyone specifically, the Menteri Besar said he raised these issues because certain parties have tried to create tensions between the different races.
Citing examples from other nations, he said such issues related to ego identity have led to disputes and divisions, ultimately causing difficulties for their people.
Amirudin then touched on the ancient Indian epic Mahabharata and its portrayal of the war between the Pandavas and Kauravas, which lasted for 18 days and resulted in a massive loss of life, which first began with a series of rivalries and arguments.
He added the Mahabharata is a famous example often cited to stress the importance of fostering peace and harmony with every human being.
“This is one of the aspects we hold dearly in the spirit of the Deepavali celebration, whether among relatives, families, or all of humanity.
“We should learn from notable literary stories. They offer more than just tales and morals, but also educate us on how to become better human beings,” Amirudin said.
He also cautioned against the possibility of being misled by someone’s appearance without truly knowing their inner character.
