Minister asks employers to help workers when facing flood disasters

KOTA BHARU, Nov 8 — Employers have been asked to show more concern for workers if they face flood disasters during the northeast monsoon (MTL) season, which begins this month.

Human Resource Minister V. Sivakumar said during the MTL season, flash floods and major floods can occur not only on the East Coast but also in other areas.

“I advise all workers across the country to be careful when faced with this situation.

“I also ask all employers to be more concerned should there be flood incidents or the like…they should be ready to help (their) employees to help ease their hardship,” he said.

Sivakumar was speaking to the press after attending the 2023 Kelantan-level Ministry of Human Resources Customer Day Programme today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has predicted four to six episodes of heavy rain during the MTL season from Saturday (November 11) until March 2024.

According to MetMalaysia, these episodes of heavy rain are expected in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Johor, and west of Sarawak, during the monsoon’s early phase from November (this year) to January 2024.
