Selangor contemplates free bus service to tourism destinations

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The state government is considering offering the use of the Smart Selangor Bus service as a mode of transportation to tourism destinations in the state.

State executive councillor for mobility Ng Sze Han said at present, the free bus service is only allowed to serve routes determined by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

“The Smart Selangor Bus is currently provided solely to fill up existing gaps, prioritising routes that are not covered by existing bus services and it requires approval from the APAD.

“At the same time, the state government understands the need to increase tourist arrivals into the state,” he said in his winding-up speech on a motion for the 2024 Development Budget Allocation at the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ng, who is also in charge of state investment, said the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) and Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) are conducted, among other things, to empower small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“We are not only empowering them so that they can enter the high-tech industrial supply chain, but also to expand their reach in line with the policies set by the state and Federal governments.

“In principle, Selangor already has a strong base in terms of the number of industrial sectors and players, as well as inventories that continuously add value to collectively boost the state’s economy,” he said.
