KLANG, Nov 18 — The state government is confident that over 27 million domestic and international tourists will visit Selangor by the end of this year, surpassing the previous year’s figure of 22 million.

State executive councillor for local government development, tourism, and New Village development Ng Suee Lim said, as of the second quarter of this year, the state recorded 2.9 million visitors, generating RM21.9 billion in domestic tourist expenditure.

“I believe the target can be achieved because Selangor hosts sporting events like the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR), cycling tours, marathons, and the MotoGP.

“Recent trends, including ecotourism and agrotourism, also attract a significant number of visitors,” he said after the RMSIR officiation ceremony at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in Port Klang yesterday evening.

The state government, via Tourism Selangor, is actively promoting the state as Malaysia’s prime tourist destination.

Ng added they have planned various exciting programmes to boost Selangor’s tourism sector further next year.

“They include the Selangor Cruise Festival, Tukang Selangor 2.0, and the Selangor Travel Fair, which will start by the second quarter of next year, at least,” he said.

In 2022, Selangor successfully maintained its record as the top destination for domestic tourists with 22 million visitors, significantly higher than other states.

This figure positioned Selangor as the leading state, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 16.9 million, Sarawak (15.5 million), Perak (14.6 million), and Pahang (13.2 million).
