Selangor Pavilion reaches 12-year high with RM1.03 mln at Matta Fair

KLANG, Nov 18 — The Selangor Pavilion recorded RM1.03 million in sales during its participation in the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair 2023 in September.

State executive councillor for local government development, tourism, and New Village development Ng Suee Lim said the sales return was the highest since Selangor began participating in the exhibition for 12 consecutive years.

“With the second edition’s main theme being ‘Selangor as Malaysia’s Featured Destination,’ Tourism Selangor opened five pavilions, and 21 tourism products received a warm response from visitors.

“It is the state’s commitment to attract more domestic visitors to Selangor through the campaign ‘Nak Bercuti? Pusing Selangor Dulu!'” he said.

Ng was speaking to the press after the officiation ceremony for the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR) 2023 at the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in Port Klang yesterday night.

He added that various tourism segments with many attractions would be provided to strengthen the state’s domestic tourism and achieve the Visit Selangor 2025 vision.

In 2022, Selangor successfully maintained its record as the top destination for domestic tourists, with 22 million visitors, significantly higher than other states.

This figure positioned Selangor as the leading state, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 16.9 million, Sarawak (15.5 million), Perak (14.6 million), and Pahang (13.2 million).

Meanwhile, at the event, Ng said the RMSIR, which starts today (November 17) and runs until November 26, begins at Port Klang and concludes in Langkawi, Kedah.

“All participants will sail through the coastal areas of three states: Perak (Pulau Pangkor), Penang, Kedah (Langkawi), and along the Selangor coast, covering a distance of 260 nautical miles over three days.

“This year’s event will be further enlivened with a FAM Trip programme, where participants will engage in river cleaning activities around the Klang area with special needs children,” he said.

RMSIR is organised with the aim of promoting Selangor’s culture, arts, and heritage to international participants and enhancing the state’s tourism sector.

“It aligns with the campaign ‘Splendid Selangor, Take Me Anywhere!’ which aims to make Selangor an ideal international tourist destination,” Ng said.

Inaugurated in 1990, the RMSIR is the second-oldest sailing competition in Asia and the most challenging in Southeast Asia.

It was launched by His Royal Highness Sultan Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, together with Datuk Johan Ariff and Jonathon Muhiudeen.

A total of 32 sailing vessels involving 320 sailors from both Malaysia and abroad will participate in the RMSIR, now in its 33rd edition.
