Teachers, parents advised to focus on children’s personalities in digital era

SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — Educators and parents are advised to continue to focus on the development of children’s personality in the era of digital development, said state executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail.

The world is now developing rapidly access to the internet, smartphone ownership and digital technology has allowed everyone access to information from anywhere in the world.

“It is important for us, especially educators and parents, to continue to focus on the formation of children’s character and personality in this digital age.

“Patterns of education are important in shaping the strength of moral values, integrity and instilling a strong identity,” he said at the closing ceremony of the Community Development Department’s (Kemas) Kindergarten Potential Day today.

Rizam added that the Government through the Malaysian Ministry of Education (KPM) has established the School Transformation Programme 2025 (TS25) to support the digital boom.

“The programme’s student development component has allowed for a Neat Early Childhood Education Digital Transformation Plan 2023-2030 has been drafted to form sustainable rural human capital based on digital knowledge.

“I hope this initiative can boost digital literacy which will be a catalyst for access to quality education for more than 200,000 Tabika Kemas children throughout Malaysia,” he said.

Potensi Day was introduced during the sixth Malaysia Plan to organise extra-curricular activities involving at the district, state and national levels.

Entering its 18th edition, this year’s Potential Day is themed ‘Shaping the Character of the Digital Era Generation Across Art’ by focusing on shaping the character of children of the digital era in line with the Madani concept introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Johor was the overall winner of Potential Day 2023, while PKM Paya Keladi Nursery, Penang received the Botani Smart Nursery Award and Selangor was crowned champion of the dance competition.
