SHAH ALAM, Oct 31— The state budget to be presented on 10 November is expected to focus on food security projects.
State executive councillor for agriculture Ir Izham Hashim said the sufficient food supply issue needs to be emphasised as a preparation in case of a disaster or a sudden increase in prices.
“We are studying a number of things, including the alternative of creating a food warehouse estimated to be worth about RM100 million that stores various basic needs such as rice and so on.
“The study was carried out together with the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) to examine the implementation and management methods of the warehouse because food has an expiry date,” he told SelangorKini.
He added, among other things that need to be emphasised is the method of increasing the rice crop yield to ensure the supply is not interrupted thus increasing the income of farmers. Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari is scheduled to present the Selangor Budget 2024 in the Selangor State Assembly session on November 10. The House is scheduled to meet from November 10 to November 24.
For this year’s state budget, a total of RM2.45 billion was approved involving management expenses amounting to RM1.25 billion while development amounted to RM1.2 billion.
