HULU LANGAT, Nov 3 — The new flyover connecting You City, Cheras, to the Cheras-Kajang Highway officially opens tonight and is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the area significantly.

Kajang Municipal Council deputy president Mohd Fareez Mohd Ariss @ Mohd Hatta said the flyover, an alternative route bypassing traffic in Taman Suntex, will benefit between 10,000 and 15,000 residents in 15 residential parks.

The 420-metre-long flyover will also indirectly reduce Jalan Koop Cuepacs 3 and Jalan PGA’s congestion, as they were previously the main routes leading to Kuala Lumpur via the Cheras-Kajang Highway.

“In addition to dispersing traffic and easing traffic congestion, it is an alternative route for residents who previously used Jalan PGA Batu 7 1/2 to access the highway.

“The flyover’s opening can reduce congestion during peak hours by 30 to 40 per cent, saving travel time,” he said after launching the flyover’s opening earlier today.

Meanwhile, Dusun Tua state assemblyman Datuk Johan Abd Aziz said the new flyover will certainly bring relief to the residents.

“In the last state election campaign, they complained as the flyover had not yet been opened. Therefore, I took the initiative to contact the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).

“Alhamdulillah, today it has been opened, a joint effort by all parties, including former representatives and council members. For me, roads for public use should not be delayed… the quicker, the better,” he added.
