5,000 visitors gather at state-level Christmas celebration

PETALING JAYA, Dec 16  — About 5,000 people of various races attended the State-level Christmas celebration on the grounds of the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) here tonight.

From 6pm to 10.30pm, the event was graced with a violin performance by Dr Joanne Yeoh, choirs by Full Gospel Tabernacle Church and the PJ State Chinese Methodist Church, a wheelchair dance by the Beautiful Gate Foundation and songs by KingdomCity in addition to face painting and cupcake decorating.

Visitors were also served a variety of dishes including spaghetti bolognese, John’s wort, fried macaroni, chicken burgers and fruits.

State executive councillor for tourism Datuk Ng Suee Lim  said, when speaking at the event, that the harmony possessed by Selangor is one of the attractions for the state’s tourism sector.

“This is a unique and inclusive state that celebrates diversity. Selangor is the best example of the basis of national unity.” 

He said the State Government’s objective was not only to maintain the harmony built in the state, but to make Selangor an inclusive state for every level of society.

“I sincerely hope that this kind of program can be continued next year with the involvement of local authorities in other districts as well as various other cultural partnerships that are the main attraction in Selangor.” 

At the same event, Suee Lim also presented the State Government’s contribution of RM678,000 to 73 church associations and related bodies for  repairs and for the organisation of religious events.
