KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 — AirAsia has announced a special all-in one-way promotion to seven destinations in South India for RM189, from now till December 24, 2024, to celebrate the recent announcement of visa-free travel from India to Malaysia.
AirAsia Malaysia chief executive officer Riad Asmat said the promotional price applies to travels to Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Kochi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata and soon Thiruvananthapuram.
“This initiative marks a significant milestone in fostering stronger ties between the two nations, and to commemorate this, AirAsia has also announced the launch of a new route, Thiruvananthapuram, starting February 21, 2024,” he said at the AirAsia Celebrates Visa-Free Announcement event, here, today.
The travel period for those destinations would commence immediately and ends on September 30, 2024.
He said this is in addition to AirAsia’s announcement of a significant increase in services between Malaysia and India, totalling an impressive 69 weekly flights starting in the first quarter of 2024, with up to 1.5 million seats per year.
Riad also said that the low-cost airline will be introducing flights to Jaipur, Goa, Varanasi and Vizag by the first half of next year, starting with Jaipur.
“We are certain that this recent initiative will allow for more Indian travellers to visit Malaysia and beyond affordably,” he said, adding that the airline is looking to end 2023 on a high note and usher in the new year with promising beginnings for the travel sector.
The government has granted a 30-day visa-free entry for China and India’s citizens from December 1, as part of the celebration of the 50-year strategic partnership between Malaysia and China next year.
Riad hopes to expand the fleet and routes, with more aircraft expected to take to the skies next year.
“We look forward to working closely with the government and other stakeholders to further pivot Malaysia’s tourism scene to its fullest potential,” he added.
