AMPANG JAYA, Dec 17 — The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) aims to involve 40,000 participants nationwide in the Jelajah Saya Digital (JSD) programme next year.
Its chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said they are targeting over 30 locations for JSD, covering both urban and rural areas.
“For example, in Selangor, we conducted it in Sungai Besar and Sungai Buloh, so this year we might propose Hulu Selangor. We want rural residents to benefit from this programme as well.
“JSD has been conducted on-site in 51 locations nationwide since its implementation two years ago, and 19,453 people have since benefited from it,” he said.
Syed Ibrahim was speaking at the inauguration of the JSD@Selangor 2023, at Dewan Dato’ Ahmad Razali today.
In his officiating speech, he said MDEC responded to the call of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the people, especially those from various backgrounds in rural and urban areas nationwide, not to be left behind in the digital world.
“Currently, mastering digital skills is crucial as it helps facilitate daily life at various levels, ensuring every segment of society has an equal opportunity to generate income and enjoy a comfortable life,” Syed Ibrahim said.
Meanwhile, Lembah Jaya state assemblyman Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, better known as Altimet, thanked MDEC for its initiative in assisting Selangor residents.
“Mastering digital skills is important at all levels. For example, there is a chicken rice seller in Lembah Jaya who acknowledges that 55 per cent of his sales now come from digital orders made by customers.
“This highlights the importance of digital skills as it helps improve customer access and expand business,” he said.
