Floods: Only 14 remain evacuated in Selangor, slight drop in Kelantan

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan and Selangor this morning saw a drop, while that in Terengganu and Perak remained unchanged.

In SELANGOR, the Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) Info Bencana portal reported that 14 people from five families were housed at a relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah in Kuala Selangor this morning, compared to 15 people last night.

Data from the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), through its Public Infobanjir portal, shows that Sungai Langat in Bukit Changgang, Kuala Langat had surpassed the alert level with a reading of 3.3 metres but showed a downward trend.

In KELANTAN, 5,087 people from 1,592 families were taking refuge at 14 relief centres in Pasir Mas as of 9am, down from 5,164 people from 1,621 families.

According to the Infobanjir portal, these centres were at SK Gual Tinggi, SK Sri Rantau Panjang (2), SK Gual To’Deh, SK Gual Sitok, SK Lati, SK Kedai Tanjong, SK Gual Periok, SK Sri Kiambang.

The other centres were at Masjid Lubok Gong, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Gual Periok, SMK Baroh Pial, Madrasah Tasek Bakong, Masjid Mukim Padang Licin, and Sekolah Menengah Agama Pohon Buluh.

In TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees at four relief centres in three districts remained unchanged at 158 people from 16 families.

The Terengganu Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the three affected districts were Dungun, with 42 evacuees from nine families, Marang (114 evacuees) and Setiu (two evacuees).

Meanwhile, in PERAK, 65 people from 18 families were being housed at a relief centre at Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall, Teluk Intan.

The Disaster Management Committee secretariat of the Perak Civil Defence Force said the affected residents are from Batu 9, Lorong Kedah, Lorong Belakang Klinik, Lorong Sidang Osman, Batu 7, Batu 8, Lorong Imam Khairi and Lorong Mesra in the Hilir Perak district.

Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong recorded a reading of 3.51 metres, which is at the danger point, and rain has been forecast for Hilir Perak in the evening and at night.
