Frequently flooded areas: State to examine all proposals, before making a decision

By Sheeda Fathil

SABAK BERNAM, Dec 10 — The state government will examine the land ownership status of residents in Jalan Rantau Panjang Kanan, Bestari Jaya, which is frequently affected by floods, before making further decisions.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said if the land belongs to the state, several things will be considered, including proposals to replace new settlements for residents.

“I will get more information about it, especially regarding the issue of providing new settlements to the residents.

“This situation depends on the area and land ownership. If it is the property of the (State Government), we can certainly replace it,” said Amirudin after officiating the Ban Canal 2023 Carnival at Parit 14, Simpang Lima, here today.

Previously, a news portal reported that the Kuala Selangor MP suggested that approximately 70 residents involving 15 houses in Jalan Rantau Panjang Kanan, Bestari Jaya, be moved to a new housing location to avoid becoming victims of floods.

Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad informed that the residents there are at risk of experiencing a flood disaster because their homes are only located about 10 meters from the banks of the Selangor River.

Residents also hope that the construction of tires in the area is expedited, especially in the current uncertain weather conditions.
