KUALA LANGAT, Dec 25 — The organisation of sporting events at Pantai Batu Laut, here, can help boost the economy of the locals, according to Tanjong Sepat assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah.

He said events like the Kuala Langat Municipal Council-Selangor Yachting Association (MPKL-SYA) Open Regatta 2023 competition, held over the weekend, help promote the coastal area to both domestic and foreign tourists.

“By hosting competitions like this, the number of visitors here have increased, as participants come with their families, including those from abroad, to watch the event.

“I noticed that eateries are packed throughout the competition, allowing the local businesses to generate income.

“It is hoped MPKL, together with the relevant residents’ representatives, as well as the district’s departments and agencies, can continue to make Pantai Batu Laut and Kuala Langat as the venue for other future competitions.”

He said this when met after the closing ceremony of the MPKL-SYA Open Regatta 2023 at Pantai Batu Laut yesterday.

Borhan, who is also the state executive councillor for culture, said the primary objective of the event is to provide a platform for young talents to hone their sailing skills.

“These tournaments can provide exposure and preparation to these young talents and potentially produce professional sailors who are respected both domestically and internationally,” he said.

A total of 80 local and foreign athletes took part in the MPKL-SYA Open Regatta 2023 from December 22 to 24.

The competition, which has entered its ninth edition, featured 11 different categories, including Optimist class, International Laser Class Association, International 420, RS One and Techno 293.
