Minister encourages public to use RM1 bln fund for community gardens

AMPANG JAYA, Dec 18 — The public should seize the opportunity and use the government’s financing offers to develop community gardens nationwide, said Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He said RM1 billion has been allocated via Budget 2024 under the Prime Minister’s Department to ensure the smooth implementation of community gardens in every area.

“The amount of funds depends on applications in each Parliamentary constituency. If other constituencies do not apply, such as Bukit Bintang, as there is no vacant space, the amount will be redirected to other areas.

“The public should benefit from applying for this fund to develop vacant areas on the outskirts of urban areas to generate income,” Mohamad said after visiting the AU2 community garden today.

During his visit, the minister also praised Rumah Pangsa AU2’s community garden project implementation in Taman Keramat, which produces various food crops for public consumption.

“I hope this project will serve as an example to implement community garden projects nationwide, not only helping to boost the economy but also reducing the burden of living costs,” he said.
