SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — The Selangor International Book Fair (SIBF) 2023 recorded the attendance of more than 250,000 visitors over the 10 days of the event that started on December 1.

State executive councillor for youth and sports Mohd Najwan Halimi said the increase in the number of visitors every year proves that the state book festival, which was organised for 16 years since 2006 before being branded as SIBF, is becoming the focus of the public and international exhibitors.

“This year, SIBF recorded an increase in the number of visitors. Even exhibitor sales transactions have also doubled compared to last year. This proves that SIBF is a prestigious event and is becoming more and more popular.

“The State Government will continue to support the Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) as an organizer in boosting the book industry and thus culturalising knowledge,” said Mohd Najwan.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of SIBF 2023 at the Shah Alam City Council Convention Centre (MBSA). PPAS director Datin Paduka Mastura Muhamad was also present at the event.

He said the organization of SIBF succeeded in promoting the culture of reading and writing among the people, especially in Selangor.

“This is part of efforts to strengthen the culture of seeking knowledge, and one of the state government’s agendas in supporting and helping to realize the Education Determination #KitaSelangor programme,.

“In fact, since it was introduced at the Selangor level starting in 2006, it is highly anticipated by book lovers, book industry players, employees, writers and local illustrators every year,” he said.

SIBF was organised last year as a continuation of the Selangor Book Fair which has been organised for 16 years since 2006.
