SHAH ALAM, Jan 3 — A total of 36,326 students registered under the Tabung Warisan Anak Selangor (Tawas) initiative, who will be entering Standard One this year, qualify for the School Entry Assistance Programme benefits.

Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) corporate communication assistant manager Sharizan Mohd Shariff said among the assistance provided include school bags, stationery, lunch boxes, and piggy banks.

He said parents may review their children’s Tawas application to check for their eligibility, as well as the claiming process for the aid.

“Please download the Yawas mobile application and register, to facilitate the claiming process. If qualified, the aid can be collected at the respective state assembly community service centres, as stated in the app.

“Hopefully, this assistance will alleviate the burden of parents in providing school equipment for their children, bringing joy to those entering Standard One,” he said when contacted.

Previously, Yawas urged parents or guardians of Tawas members born in 2017, who will be entering year one next year, to update their information for assistance distribution purposes.

Tawas is one of several state welfare programmes launched in 2008 and is open to Selangor-born children who meet the stipulated criteria.

Children must be registered before they turn three, who will then receive a financial aid of RM1,500 when they reach the age of 18.

On a separate matter, Sharizan said the state’s Skim Bantuan Asuhan Anakku Pintar (Asuh Pintar) for the 2024 session, which offers RM100 in childcare assistance to middle-income families with at least two children aged four and below, is open for registration from January 2.

“Through this scheme, it offers eligible parents a monthly assistance of RM100 for nursery or daycare centre fees. Limited applications are now open for submission. The aid would be transferred directly to the children’s nursery or childcare centre.”

Applications can be made online through https://asuhpintar.yawas.my/web/, with applicants required to submit the necessary documents within 14 working days.

The required documents include copies of the child’s birth certificate; applicant and spouse’s identity cards and latest salary slips; certificate of residence (for non-Selangor residents); supporting documents or sworn affidavit (for special cases); and relevant certificates such as adoption, divorce, death, single mother, or medical illnesses (if applicable).

To be eligible, applicants must be a Malaysian citizen, resident of Selangor, have a household income of RM5,000 and below, both parents are employed and registered with the Election Commision, children are aged four and below, and childcare centres must be registered with the Social Welfare Department.
