SHAH ALAM, Jan 9 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Women’s wing has unequivocally condemned veteran actor Datuk Rosyam Nor over his remark on the need for prostitution dens in the country to prevent rape cases involving foreign workers here.
Its deputy chief Juwairiya Zulkifli described the celebrity’s proposal as distasteful, violating the law, undermining family values and institutions, and contradicting Islamic principles.
“Such thinking should not be normalised in society, as it can potentially undermine family institutions and the social system, not to mention violating the country’s laws.
“Controversies related to issues among foreign workers in the country should be thoroughly addressed, but this proposal is legally flawed and disrespects the National Family Policy,” she said in a statement today.
Juwairiya, who is also Selangor Keadilan vice-chairman and Hulu Kelang state assembly coordinator, stressed that every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
“Both women and men should be respected as dignified individuals rather than being treated as objects for manipulation or discrimination,” she said.
Juwairiya’s statement is in response to Rosyam’s remarks in the ‘Hitam Putih Kehidupan’ podcast uploaded to the Suhan Channel on TikTok on Sunday (January 7), where he suggested the necessity to have brothels in Malaysia to satisfy the sexual urge of male foreign workers and subsequently curb rape.
The actor and businessman noted that many of these workers have left their wives behind in their home countries to earn a living here.
“At present, there are about three million foreign workers who come here to work in our country, and almost all of them have left their wives behind in their home country.
“If they are not men, it is ok; understand what I am trying to say? If they do not (engage in sexual relations), where can they satisfy their lust?
“When there is no work, they watch porn too. So, if there is a brothel, at least they can pay (to satisfy themselves),” Rosyam said.
