Fire, Rescue Dept to organise three international programmes in October

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 24 — Three international programmes to be organised simultaneously by the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) this October will have a significant impact on the Malaysia’s fire and rescue industry, says Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

The programmes are The International Fire Chiefs’ Association Of Asia (IFCAA) General Conference, the International Fire Conference And Exhibition Malaysia (IFCEM), and the Malaysia International Rescue Extrication Challenge (MIREC)-IFCAA Joint Drill 2024, to be held from October 22 to October 24.

He said the programmes, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, will involve 1,800 participants from 30 countries.

“The government, through the Housing and Local Government Ministry, welcomes JBPM’s efforts in high-impact programmes of this kind and has approved a RM1.5 million allocation for its implementation and management,” Nga said.

He was speaking to the press during the programmes’ soft launch at JBPM’s Headquarters today, which was also attended by JBPM director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohamad.

In addition to the allocation from the government, the IFCAA, as a co-organiser, also contributed RM280,000.

With the theme ‘Enhancing the Capacity’, the events focused on three main components, namely Fire Engineering and Safety, Fire and Rescue Technology and Operations, as well as Disaster and Incident Management Mechanisms.

Nga it is also the best platform for industry experts, professionals, and academics in the field to share knowledge and best practices to improve fire safety practices.

Meanwhile, the programmes would also help Malaysia as a destination for international conferences and exhibitions, tourism, trade, and major investments in the region.
