Hockey5S World Cup: Malaysian men’s team held by Oman

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 — The national men’s five-a-side hockey team began their Hockey5s World Cup 2024 campaign with a 3-3 draw against hosts Oman in a Group D match at the Hockey Oman Venue in Muscat today.

Coach Wallace Tan’s men began aggressively to go 2-0 up through field goals by Syarman Mat Tee in the ninth minute and Mohamad Akhimullah Anuar Esook in the 12th minute.

Oman, however, narrowed the deficit through a Fahad Al Lawati field goal a minute later.

Malaysia then began the second half by restoring their two-goal lead through Mohamad Akhimullah in the 16th minute (penalty stroke), but Oman again hit back to score two quick field goals through Aiman Madit (22nd minute) and Khalid Al Saibi (25th minute) to make it 3-3.

Malaysia will take on the United States and Fiji tomorrow (January 29).

The United States trounced Fiji 14-3 in the other Group D tie.
