MBI allocates RM1 mln for disaster victims as applications rise

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

PETALING JAYA, Jan 29 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has allocated RM1 million specifically to aid disaster victims this year.

Its corporate social responsibility and corporate communication head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the allocation has been increased from last year’s RM500,000.

“This year’s allocation has been increased to RM1 million due to various disasters residents face, in addition to MBI receiving many applications.

“Overall, MBI is always ready to assist those who face unexpected disasters,” he said after handing over cash donations to victims of fallen trees and fires at the Kota Damansara state assemblyman’s office today.

Earlier, Ahmad, along with Kota Damansara state assemblyman Izuan Ahmad Kasim, handed over cash donations to acid attack victim Nadia Fasha Qistina Azman Shah, aged 20, at her residence in Kota Damansara.

Through today’s disaster aid, MBI distributed RM13,000 in assistance to victims of acid attacks, fallen trees, and fires.

In addition, Ahmad also announced that MBI will examine further assistance regarding cosmetic surgery for Nadia with the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS).

“From the information received, the victim’s father has submitted a request for assistance to the board. Therefore, we need to scrutinise the application progress.

“If not, we are ready to provide further assistance to the victim under MBI’s wakalah zakat,” he said.

On November 8, Nadia was attacked with acid by a man disguised as a ride-hailing driver, who subsequently fled.

The incident occurred as the victim was returning from work at a clinic at the scene, resulting in severe injuries to her face, body, and legs, requiring her to undergo eight surgeries.
