Navy confirms MACC summoned personnel over “procument cartel”

KUANTAN, Jan 20 — The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has confirmed several of its members have been summoned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for questioning on the ‘procurement cartel’ involving construction work at one of its base camps, involving over RM9 million.

RMN Commander Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob said the commission also took several documents to facilitate its investigation, said to involve a project carried out last year.

“RMN has extended its full cooperation in the investigation. Let them (MACC) continue with their job, and we will wait for the investigation’s results.

“We will not compromise with any of its members involved in wrongdoings, and they should be aware of the actions they will face if they do something wrong,” he said.

Rahman was speaking to the press after attending the naming and commissioning of its patrol craft (PC) KD Sri Sabah and KD Sri Sarawak at the Tanjung Gelang RMN Base jetty today.

When asked whether RMN will conduct an internal investigation into the matter, he said he would wait for the report from MACC before making a decision.

Yesterday, three men believed to be the masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ were arrested by the Johor MACC at its office at about 6pm.

It is understood the arrests were made on charges of false claims and being masterminds of the ‘procurement cartel’ involving 13 supplier companies managing construction works at the camp.
