SHAH ALAM, Jan 5 — The State Government is focusing efforts on overcoming the issue of school dropout rates among Orang Asli children and encouraging them to pursue high-skill fields.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V Papparaidu said among the measures implemented was to help them attend Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses at the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC)

“STDC is a technical education institution under the State Government that offers a variety of quality training courses. It is in line with the goal of producing highly skilled workers that meet industry needs.

“In fact, the State Government is also offering sponsorship through the Smart Selangor Technical Skills and Expertise Initiative (Iktisass),” said V Papparaidu at a press conference after Chinese New Year Let’s Shop voucher coordination meeting at the state administration centre here today.

He said his office will ensure that Orang Asli children do not drop out of school and get the opportunity to continue their studies like that of other races in line with the state policy which places great emphasis on education.

“We hope this effort will help them build a better future. Without a proper education they will be vulnerable to and easily influenced by social ills,” he said.
