SHAH ALAM, Feb 2 — The Bandar Utama state constituency has been allocated RM20 million for the implementation of a flood mitigation project in high risk areas.
Its assemblyman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the funding will be fully borne by the Irrigation and Drainage Department, with the project to kickstart on March 24.
“It will involve areas along Sungai Kayu Ara in Kampung Chempaka PJU1/4, with an estimated distance of one kilometre, covering five critical locations.”
“The project is expected to take about two years to complete and I am confident there is a high likelihood that floods will no longer affect these areas,” she told Selangorkini.
Jamaliah said she has also lined up several other projects and activities in Bandar Utama this year, including the replacement of old pipes in several locations, through cooperation with Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.
Among the locations involved are residential areas in Zone 5-7 Petaling Jaya.
Jamaliah, who is the state executive councillor for public health, said the existing health screening programme in collaboration with Assunta Hospital will also continue this year.
It will be conducted monthly with the aim of helping the less privileged group get free medical checkup.
“Additionally, legal clinics will be conducted at the Bandar Utama community service center every two months to assist individuals in need of legal advice,” she said.
