SHAH ALAM, Feb 5 — The state government has received 20,800 units of free Covid-19 self-test kits from the BP Healthcare Group, which will be distributed to community service centres throughout Selangor.

State executive councillor for public health Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the kits, collectively worth RM104,000, are part of Malaysia’s largest healthcare provider’s corporate social responsibility.

“BP Healthcare Group has expressed a desire to collaborate with my office as an initiative to help control and prevent the spread of Covid-19 during the school holiday and festive season.

“This is also in line with the recommendations of the state government and the Health Ministry,” she said during a press conference at the State Secretariat Building today.

Jamaliah added they have already distributed the kits to 25 community service centres, each receiving 800 units on average.

The distribution is a precautionary measure in case Covid-19 infections suddenly increase in Selangor, especially during the festive season and school holidays.

“Based on past experience, Covid-19 cases have shown a worrying increase during the holidays and festivities. So, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure everyone performs self-tests,” she said.

Jamaliah also welcomes collaboration with various parties, including the private sector, academics, and non-governmental organisations, to look after the future and well-being of Selangor’s residents

“This cooperation reflects the state government’s open approach in implementing the public-private partnership (PPP) model as an innovative step in the healthcare sector,” she said.
