MBPJ: 19 locations for Ramadan bazaars, cashless transactions offered

By Sheeda Fathil

PETALING JAYA, Feb 9 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has given the green light to 931 traders to operate at 19 Ramadan bazaar locations this year, said its mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon.

He said that all traders are to offer cashless transactions in support of the goals of the Smart State agenda.

“Themed ‘Digital and Clean’, the requirement for cashless transactions applies to 1,243 bazaar stalls across the 19 locations during Ramadan.

“We expect traders to follow these guidelines and maintain cleanliness during and after the bazaar operations, in line with the city’s image,” he said at a press conference after officiating the 2024 Ramadan bazaar lot ballot session programme and the handing over of the permits at Dewan Sivik MBPJ, here yesterday.

Zahri said the traders were also briefed on improving food engineering during Ramadan, seasonal i-financing schemes, and the importance of hygienic food handling.

He said the local council is organising a free food engineering course on March 4 to further support the transition of traders in Petaling Jaya.

“We encourage all traders to participate in this course as it provides knowledge and helps in business expansion,” he said.
