Mohamad Zahri appointed mayor of Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA, Feb 5 Mohamad Zahri Samingon was appointed as the seventh mayor of Petaling Jaya with effect from February 1. 

He is replacing Mohd Azhan Md Amir, who was appointed as deputy secretary general (management and development) at the Higher Education Ministry.

Mohamad Zahri thanked the state government for trusting him to lead the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).

“I, along with councillors assisted by MBPJ employees, will implement the state government’s vision and mission, the First Selangor Plan (RS-1) and other policies, including the Greater Klang Valley policy and administrative matters.

“In addition, I will ensure that Petaling Jaya’s resilience is strengthened and work towards reducing the risk of flash floods and landslides as well as ensure the economic sector remains competitive,” he said.

Earlier, Mohamad Zahri received the certificate of acceptance of office and read the pledge of integrity at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Council headquarters here, today.

The Tanjung Karang native previously held the position of deputy government secretary (management) of the State Secretary’s Office for two years, from 2021 until January this year.

He graduated with a Public Administration Degree with Honors from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and has a Diploma in Public Management from the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan).
