KUALA LANGAT, Feb 17 — Efforts towards achieving the goal of planting 11 million trees by 2026 in Selangor are actively being carried out with the cooperation of local authorities, district offices and the private sector.

State executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said her office is currently collecting data and identifying tree planting areas in an effort to preserve and conserve the greenery in Selangor.

“God willing, in the first six months of this year we will compile the data and make further plans, such as the division of planting and so on.

“We will also hold more programmes with the private sector and in the future may involve schools as well,” said Jamaliah after launching the Selangor Saring 2024 at The Arc@Rimbayu here today.

She said various initiatives were also undertaken to spread the implementation of state government programmes in an effort to preserve the sustainability of the environment.

“This is important in realizing the goal of Selangor as a low-carbon city by 2030 and achieving the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030,” he said.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari when presenting the 2024 Budget said a total of RM400,000 was allocated for the implementation of the tree planting programme towards achieving the target of 11 million trees planted by 2026.

It is an effort to conserve and regreen the explored forest areas in addition to some efforts to maintain up to 31 per cent of the gazetted forest reserve area.
