SHAH ALAM, Feb 7 — The Selangor Wakaf Corporation (Wakaf Selangor) is targeting a wakaf (endowment) collection of RM100 million this year, compared with the RM75.5 million collected in 2023.
Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusof said wakaf collection covers cash wakaf, special wakaf and wakaf benefits (leases).
“The public’s awareness of waqf is increasing. Previously, the collection was small, but it is now increasing, many people are aware, the methods of endowment are also simple and can be done online.
“Wakaf can also be made through salary or account deductions every month or every day. Most importantly, we want to make people aware of the great rewards bestowed on wakaf contributors,” he said when met at the launch of the Selangor level Wakaf Month at the Dewan Orkid in Wisma PKPS here yesterday.
According to Abdul Aziz, as much as RM2 million from last year’s wakaf contributions were used for wakaf fisabilillah to religious, educational and health institutions in need of repair.
“God willing, this year’s fisabilillah wakaf fund will be expanded and we will make room for any institution that needs repairs to contact Wakaf Selangor. Hopefully this practice can be channelled to and used for the benefit of the public,” he said.
People who want to contribute wakaf can do so in cash via Wakaf Selangor’s official channels by visiting https://fpx.wakafselangor.gov.my/ewo_login.asp for cash wakaf or via a DuitNow QR.
