Detained barber released over mother’s death, rearrested for drug offences

SHAH ALAM, March 6 — The suspect of a murder case, detained for allegedly beating his mother to death last Wednesday (February 28), was released when it was revealed she had died of a heart attack instead.

However, the 33-year-old barber was re-arrested for drug offences instead.

Shah Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the alleged assault occured at Kampung Jawa, where the suspect used a pair of safety boots and a metal hammer to commit the act.

“The police are now in the process of obtaining instructions to press charges against the suspect for drug offences,” he told Bernama today.

Iqbal added the suspect tested positive for methamphetamine when he was rearrested, and had several previous drug and criminal records.

In an unrelated development, the remand order against a lorry driver, suspected of murdering his Thai girlfriend by pushing her off the 23rd floor of a condominium in Setia Alam on Thursday (February 29) has been extended for another two days, starting tomorrow.

The Magistrate’s Court allowed the application to extend the remand period against the 37-year-old local suspect this morning.
