Don’t get distracted, stay focused on your duties, MB tells civil servants

SHAH ALAM, Mar 22 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged state civil servants to remain focused on delivering their duties and services to the people of Selangor and not be distracted by non-essentials.

This is particularly vital in the age of distraction resulting from the rise of new media, he said in his Ramadan address to government postholders today.

According to Amirudin, it is important to maintain focus to ensure the effective and smooth implementation of all state policies and programmes, including the First Selangor Plan (RS-1).

He said this should cut across all levels of the state government, from senior officers to front desk officers, ultimately contributing to the state’s success.

“As a state government, it is crucial not only to implement prompt actions but to also remain focused on our missions and agendas,” he said in his speech at the Mahabbah Ramadan Madani event with state civil servants at the State Secretariat Building, here, today.

“This includes the implementation of RS-1, which aims to boost our economy, create job opportunities, provide comfortable housing, preserve our forests, and develop a care economy, among other things.

“So, let’s not lose our focus. At the same time, we need to understand our surroundings, and ensure that grassroots efforts are properly aligned to address the concerns of the people.”

The Menteri Besar said rather than be distracted by social media contents, civil servants must use it to their advantage.

He stressed the importance for them to be quick to respond to false allegations and misinformation concerning the state government being spread online, particularly on platforms like TikTok.

Amirudin shared an example of the misunderstandings caused in the last state election as a result of fake news alleging the closure of religious schools in the state.

“On TikTok, for example, we must not merely be engulfed by recommended contents on ‘FYP’ (For You Page). We need to also understand how to utilise social media effectively to achieve our goals,” he said.

Later, when speaking to reporters, Amirudin said that while the state civil servants’ performance has been good, they need to better maintain focus on delivering for the rakyat.

“Our performance, Alhamdulillah, has been good. But we must aim to enhance our focus. As we’ve observed, there have been instances of misfocus in terms of our (service) delivery, possibly due to distractions.

“So, it’s not just about performance, but also efficiency. One key aspect is to remain focused on our goals,” he said.
