SHAH ALAM, March 30 — Water levels at seven dams in Selangor are currently stable despite the hot weather.

State executive councillor for infrastructure Izham Hashim most of the dams’ water levels are higher than 80 per cent.

“So far, there are no problems. Everything is stable, and most are still at 80 per cent or more. Only at the Klang Gates Dam is it above 70 per cent, but it is under control.

“We are constantly monitoring water levels at dams, and so far, everything is stable despite the hot weather,” he told Selangorkini when contacted recently.

According to the Integrated Water Resource Management Information System website, managed by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas), until 8am yesterday, water levels at Batu Dam were at 88.17 per cent, Klang Gates Dam (76.17 per cent), and Langat Dam (79.15 per cent).

Meanwhile, water levels at Semenyih Dam are at 100.18 per cent, Sungai Selangor Dam (89.82 per cent), Sungai Tinggi Dam (94.46 per cent), and Subang Lake Dam (100 per cent).

Yesterday, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) stated that 29 areas in the Peninsula and one area in Sabah and Sarawak each recorded a level one heatwave alert.

MetMalaysia had previously announced the transition phase of the monsoon is expected to begin yesterday and continue until May.

The hot and dry weather that is happening in most areas across the country is expected to gradually recover by mid-April.

On Thursday, the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) reported that the raw water storage reserves in four dams in Johor, Penang, and Kedah have decreased to critical levels due to the hot weather.

The government agency said the dams involved are the West Sembrong Dam in Johor which has water levels at 31.65 per cent, the Air Itam Dam in Penang (35 per cent), and Kedah’s BS Padang Saga Dam (39.67 per cent) and Malut Dam (39.90 per cent).
