Selangor FC on the hunt for new assistant coach

KUALA LUMPUR March 19 — Selangor FC is anticipated to recruit a new assistant coach, enhancing the team’s readiness to tackle the demands of both the Malaysian League (M-League) and Asian Champions League 2 (ACL2) in the upcoming campaign.

Selangor FC manager Mahfizul Rusydin Abdul Rashid said they are currently assessing several candidates to fill the vacant position.

He added that they are not ruling out the possibility of having a coaching staff consisting of both a local head coach and an imported assistant, similar to last season, to further bolster the team.

“The plan to add to the coaching staff is in place, especially now that Nidzam Jamil has been appointed as the new head coach. We are open to any interested coaches.

“We are considering both local and foreign candidates. The decision will be announced in the near future,” he told Bernama.

Last Saturday, Nidzam, who had been serving as the team’s interim manager, was officially announced as the head coach for the 2024/25 season, which is set to commence this May.

In the previous season, Selangor FC was under the guidance of head coach Tan Cheng Hoe, who has now moved to lead Thailand’s League 1 club Police Tero FCi, alongside assistant coaches Nidzam and Roman Marcote.

Nidzam expressed confidence that the current blend of local talents and imported players within Selangor FC’s ranks are well-equipped to mount a strong challenge in both the M-League and ACL2.

“Even though we have one more slot for an imported player, the team has decided not to recruit one,” he said.

For the 2024/25 season, the Red Giants have recruited five new players, namely Umarbek Eshmurodov, Ronnie Fernandez, Alvin Fortes, young goalkeeper Azim Al-Amin, and Harimau Malaya’s midfielder Nooa Laine.
