SHAH ALAM, March 8 — The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has announced that this year’s zakat fitrah rate in the state will remain the same as the last, at RM7, RM14 and RM21, depending on the type of rice consumed by contributors.

In a statement, LZS said the decision was made based on the prices of different grades of rice and the types commonly consumed by Muslims in Selangor.

“The zakat fitrah rate is set at RM7 for consumers of locally produced super special rice, which is the minimum mandatory rate as decided by the Selangor State Fatwa Committee.

“Meanwhile, the RM14 rate applies to those who consume imported rice, brown rice, glutinous rice, Ponni ice and fragrant rice.

“As for the RM21 rate, it is for Muslims who consume basmati rice, Japanese rice, red rice and other equivalent types,” it said today.

LZS also announced the appointment of 2,778 zakat fitrah collectors across the state to assist Muslims in fulfilling their obligations.

Additionally, payments can be made through 17 appointed collectors in higher education institutions and 96 tahfiz centres and private religious schools in Selangor.

Various online payment platforms will also be made available for the people’s convenience, it said.

LZS added that during Ramadan, it will deploy its Zakat On Wheels mobile counter at strategic locations such as mosques, Ramadan bazaars, farmers’ markets and supermarkets, while 18 of its branches will also be opened throughout the fasting month.

“The public is reminded to pay their zakat fitrah only to appointed collectors, which can be authenticated based on their accreditation cards and appointment certificates by LZS,” it said.
