Sidec inks four memoranda during Taiwan trip

SHAH ALAM, March 30 — The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy
Corporation (Sidec) concluded its recent international business trip to Taiwan by signing four memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with key global partners.

The trip, which took place from last Tuesday (March 19) to Friday (March 22), saw its delegation accompanied by the state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han.

Sidec signed the MOUs with the Kaohsiung City Government’s Transportation Bureau, the Institute for Information Industry (III), the International Cooperation Center of the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), and the Taipei City Government’s Information Technology Department.

They aim to revolutionise the digital landscape by emphasising collaborative efforts in smart city development, mobility data platforms, talent exchange, and resource sharing.

With the Transportation Bureau, Sidec signed the Selangor-Kaohsiung Mobility Initiative MOU, working towards developing the Selangor Mobility Data Platform to enhance urban transport intelligence and collaborative technological advancements.

For III, the Sustainable Smart City Collaboration MOU will see Sidec partnering with the institute to create resilient and sustainable smart cities, foster digital transformation, and share the best practices in smart city development.

TCA’s Twin Office and Manpower Exchange MOU with Sidec focuses on establishing twin offices and exchanging manpower between Taipei and Selangor, facilitating bilateral support for small and medium enterprises and startups, and enhancing market access.

As for the Taipei IT Department, the Urban Tech Advancement MOU seeks to develop the Selangor Mobility Data Platform further, sharing insights and innovations in urban transport technologies.

Sidec’s chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the MOUs represent a leap forward in its commitment to driving digital innovation and supporting the growth of smart cities.

“Through these international collaborations, we are not only expanding our horizons but also reinforcing our dedication to creating a more connected, sustainable, and technologically advanced future,” he said in a statement today.

Although non-binding, the memoranda signify the beginning of long-term strategic partnerships prioritising mutual benefit, transparency, and shared growth. They also provide a framework for future collaboration, resource sharing, and the collective pursuit of digital excellence.

During the trip, Sidec also participated in Taiwan’s 2024 Smart City Summit and Expo, echoing the principles of Malaysia Madani, which emphasises sustainability via the concepts of green cities and smart cities.

Yong said the corporation’s dedication extends beyond digital innovation, as it is also deeply committed to sustainability.

“It is with great anticipation and a shared vision for a sustainable future that we, on behalf of the Selangor government, embark on the Greentech challenge with Taiwan,” he said during the summit’s Bridging Innovation: Taiwan and Thailand Startup Showcase.

The event provided Sidec with a platform to underscore its crucial role in driving forward
smart city initiatives and nurturing collaborations aimed at fostering sustainable,
well-being, and resilient urban environments.
