State fulfills promise, Kampung Bunga Raya residents get Rumah Selangorku offers

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, March 11 — The state government fulfilled its promise today when it handed over Rumah Selangorku offer letters to 36 Kampung Bunga Raya residents who were facing an eviction order from the court.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu said the offer allows them to buy an affordable residential unit type A in Taman Alam Perdana, Puncak Alam priced at RM42,000 quickly and easily.

He said the house keys would be handed over no later than a month after completing the process at the bank with the application having to be handled in-person.

“As promised last Thursday (March 7), we will give all 118 people who live in the area the opportunity to buy Rumah Selangorku. Today, 36 applicants, who have been screened, have received offer letters.

“They don’t have to wait long to get a house with three rooms and two bathrooms. They just need to fill in the form and they will be given a house within two to four weeks after going through the bank process,” he said.

Speaking at a press conference today, Papparaidu however said the offer was not given to those who had previously applied for Rumah Selangorku except in emergency cases.

“Some people have already made applications earlier, they will not be included in this list unless they fail to get the house that  they originally applied for.

“We also hope that they will comply with the Selangor Housing Authority’s conditions such as the applicant cannot go bankrupt and those who die can pass the application on to their children or anyone else,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kota Damansara state representative Izuan Kasim thanked the state government for its commitment in resolving the issue that has been lingering for the past three decades.

“Previously we had other strategies to help, such as providing temporary accommodation in the People’s Housing Project (PPR), but the majority chose to rent on their own.

“I hope this offer relieves the residents involved and they can start a new life at the house,” he said.

Rumah Panjang Kampung Bunga Raya is a temporary settlement for 118 families who were relocated in 1993 following the Dahlia housing project in Section U5 in Shah Alam.

The state government at that time asked the residents to move to a temporary settlement which is owned by the state government before promising to provide a new settlement.

However, recently the residents were surprised when the area was sold to a private developer, the company ordered the residents to move without providing any alternative solution.
