SHAH ALAM, Mar 22 — Yayasan Selangor has allocated RM990,000 in education funding to sponsor 62 underprivileged students for the 2024/2025 school session.

The state agency said the sponsorship through the Yayasan Selangor Bitara initiative involves 55 students from various Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) and seven students from Kolej Yayasan Saad Melaka (KYSM).

The students, who are from B40 households with a per capita family income of less than RM2,000 per month, were selected under the Budi Yayasan Selangor programme.

“The sponsorship includes school fees, accommodation and food fees, study fees, allowances and devices,” it said in a statement.

According to Yayasan Selangor, the initiative offers these students the opportunity to pursue their education in elite schools with a conducive learning environment and robust infrastructure.

The Bitara programme, which was launched in 2021 in partnership with KYSM and Mara, strives to produce students who are globally competitive and academically excellent.

“It is to meet the needs of the world-class job market and contribute to a high-performance workforce,” it said.

The programme by Yayasan Selangor sponsors students from the state to pursue their secondary education in 12 selected MRSMs as well as higher secondary education in KYSM.
