Health Ministry revokes ZMY Magnetic Aura Night Cream’s notification

PUTRAJAYA, April 22 — The notification of the cosmetic product ZMY Magnetic Aura Night Cream, which contains mercury, has been revoked, and it is no longer allowed to be sold in Malaysia.

National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA) director Rosilawati Ahmad said mercury is prohibited in cosmetic products as it can damage the kidneys and nervous system, interfere with the development of a child’s or fetus’s brain, and cause rashes and skin irritation.

“Sellers and distributors are urged to stop selling and distributing this cosmetic product immediately as it violates the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984,” she said in a statement today.

Any individual who commits the offence can be fined up to RM25,000 or imprisoned not more than three years or both for the first offence and fined RM50,000 or jailed not more than five years or both for subsequent offences.

A company found guilty can be fined up to RM50,000 for the first offence and RM100,000 for subsequent offences.

Rosilawati also urged consumers to stop using the product immediately and seek the advice of healthcare professionals if they experience any discomfort or adverse effects.
