Over two mln Selangor residents reap benefits from state cheap sales programme

HULU SELANGOR, April 15 – The Jualan Ehsan Rakyat (JER) initiative has benefited over two million people in Selangor since its launch two years ago, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the sales programme, which offers everyday goods at discounted prices and held across the state, has benefitted more than 700,000 families.

“We are in the process of gradually reviving the country’s economy. Alhamdulillah (Thank God), the government has helped ensure that daily essential items, such as chicken, are made available during the festive season and that prices are controlled.

“There may be some reports of price hikes, but the government ensured that supplies of oil, chicken, eggs, and other items are not disrupted as what had happened during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This was thought through by the government, such as for Selangor, we conducted the JER initiative two years ago. The programme has now expanded nationwide under Jualan Ehsan Rahmah. Surely, the government is not perfect, but it is able to prioritise what is important,” he said at an Aidilfitri gathering at the Balai Raya Taman Seri Batang Kali, here yesterday.

Previously known as Jualan Prihatin Rakyat, JER was first launched on February 28, 2022, and was later rebranded as Jualan Ehsan Rakyat on August 22, 2022.

Following the state government’s collaboration through the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) with the Domestic Trade and Costs of Living Ministry, the programme is now called Jualan Ehsan Rahmah.

The programme focuses on offering six essential items, namely chicken, beef, fish, chicken eggs, rice, and cooking oil. To meet public demand, it is offered several other food items, such as bread.

JER offers whole standard chickens priced at RM10 each, fresh solid beef at RM10 a pack, grade B chicken eggs at RM10 a tray, mackerel and sardines at RM6 a pack, 5-kilogramme cooking oil at RM25 and 5-kilogramme packs of rice at RM13 each.
