UTAR student sole Chinese candidate to complete Pulpak basic commando course

KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — Second Lieutenant Chan Ming Youn, 25, emerged as the sole Chinese candidate to successfully complete the 12-week Basic Commando Course at the Special Warfare Training Centre (Pulpak) in Sungai Udang, Melaka.

In a video shared on Facebook by the erita Tentera Darat Malaysia page, the Setapak native was conferred the Special Forces Green Beret and Commando Knife during the closing ceremony at Pulpak yesterday by the 21st Special Service Group (21 GGK) Commander cum Special Service Regiment chairman Major General Adi Ridzwan Abdullah.

Reflecting on his achievement, Chan said his interest in joining the commando training arose after participating in the Territorial Army programme, and he sought to demonstrate that a Territorial Army serviceman could also become a commando.

The Tunku Abdul Rahman University College accounting student said his membership in the 515th Regiment of the Territorial Army had also fueled his interest in gaining more military knowledge.

“My goal is to continue serving in the commando unit, acquire more knowledge, undergo specialised courses, and become a qualified commando who always upholds the honour of this unit throughout my lifetime,” he said in the video.

Nine officers and 60 other personnel of various ranks successfully completed the 12-week training.
